Doha. Aspire academy student athletes and graduates were part of the Qatar national team that participated in the Fencing Junior World Championships held in Cairo, Egypt from 4th to 10th of April 2021. Aspire student-athletes and graduates represented Qatar in individual events as well as team contest in Foil and it here where Qatar recorded some exceptional results on the back of remarkable performances by debuting Qatar Foil team at world championships.
The Qatar Foil team reached for the first time in the history of fencing in Qatar, the top 16 of the World Championships and only lost out to the USA team which was ranked number 2 in the world going into the tournament and is now ranked number 1. The Qatar National Foil team entered the official FIE U20 international ranking for the first time after their first participation in the U20 World Champion.
Qatar team reached 23rd place in the world ranking tied with Singapore and 4th place in the Asian ranking based on latest FIE U20 ranking. “This is immense progress the boys have made, and we are all proud of how Qatar is steadily climbing up the ranking and getting to be recognized among the top fencing nations in the both the world and in Asia,” said Aspire Academy and Qatar national team fencing head coach, Massimo Omeri.
