Aspire Academy’s head fencing coach Massimo Omeri has praised the progress made by the Academy's student-athletes.
Omeri was talking after Aspire Academy student-athletes representing Qatar won five medals at the recent West Asian Fencing Championships for under-13 and under-15 fencers in Jordan.
There were individual silvers for Youssef Abdeltawab, in the epee for under-15 boys, and Adham El Deeb in the foil for under-13 boys.
El Deeb also teamed up with Abdulrahman Poorgharib, Faisal Al Katheeri and Youssef Ibrahim to claim silver in the foil team event for under-13 boys.
Poorgharib added to his tally with a bronze in the individual foil for under-13’s while Abdulrahman Al Jadra also claimed a bronze in the epee in the under-15’s
“Overall performances have been very good and are in line with QFF/Aspire Academy's development strategy,” Omeri, who is also the head coach with the Qatar Fencing Federation, said.
“There is a clear level of consistency in the performance this season with the under-14 team performing very well in all the events that they took part in.”
“Consistency is the most important indicator, especially in this age group where learning is still the main focus.”
“In this age group, the consistent performance of the whole team is often as important as medals.
“Another key point is that in this under-14 category, we have more than one fencer capable of doing well.”
“I would like to extend my congratulations to the entire team and last but not least to the coaching team: Alvaro, Rudy, Mohamed, Arran, Joong and Mohamed Ramadan.”
There was also a gold medal for Isabel Btaddini, who trains at Aspire Academy, in the foil event for under-13 girls.
