ASPIRE ACADEMY FENCER ABDULLAH DAKAK CLAIMS U14 WIN IN GEORGIA

Aspire Academy student-athlete Abdullah Dakak has won the Under-14 European Circuit Foil event in Tbilisi, Georgia.

Abdullah Dakak, who is in grade 9, qualified for the knockout stage of the event by winning his pool with three wins, a loss and a walkover.

In the last 16, he overcame local Georgian player Aleksandre Aptsiauri before beating his fellow Aspire Academy student-athlete Yousuf Ibrahim in the quarter-finals.

He won the event with victories over two more Georgian players, Lazare Chitadze in the semi-finals and Givi Kurashvili, in the final.

Yousuf Ibrahim, who is also in grade 9, made an impressive start to the event, winning four of his five pool matches to qualify second.

His loss to Abdullah Dakak in the last eight saw him finish sixth overall at the tournament that featured 17 participants from five different nations: Georgia, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Turkey and Qatar.
