AL TAMIMI CLAIMS QATAR CIRCUIT SQUASH TITLE IN STYLE

Doha, 29 November 2017.  Aspire Academy graduate and Qatar leading squash player, Abdulla Al Tamimi won the Qatar Circuit No.4 - PSA M15 event played Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex  in Doha on Tuesday 28th Novemeber 2017.

Abdulla Al Tamimi who is currently ranked No.43 in the World beat Karim El Hammamy from Egypt  in straight games in the final to claim the title. The 22-year-old Aspire Academy product needed 26 minutes to wrap up victory over his World No.77 ranked opponent, winning 11-2, 11-5 11-4. At the start of the tournament Tamimi, said his main aim for the second half of this season was to be more consistent and he wanted to use this event to prepare for next month’s World Championship in Manchester, United Kingdom.

The home favourite had a supportive crowd behind him that included his father and elder brother as well as fellow Qatari and Aspire Academy student athletes and young aspiring squash players who had come to cheer him on. Tamimi is Qatar’s first professional squash player. Said after his victory, “It is always a delight to win before your home crowd. I am happy I have lived up to their expectations. Playing at home brings a certain amount of pressure but overcame that to win the title. I have had some bad tournaments and bad matches. I have not been consistent enough but today  I am happy that I was consistent in this tournament and I wish to carry the consistency in the next events of the second half of the season.”

Tamimi said he had imposed a few do’s and don’ts himself ahead of this Doha tournament, “I stopped using social media and cut off from my friends to focus on the tournament.” Tamimi aims to celebrate his title win with his friends for the next couple of days before getting down to serious business of preparing for the World Championship. “I have one and half weeks to go before I leave for the World Championship, I will be leaving for England on December 7, so till then it is going to be  more hard work on the courts for me ,” said Tamimi.
