Doha, 11 February 2016. On National Sport Day, Aspire Zone hosted a number of activities to engage members of the local community in a wide range of physical activities. As part of the day’s celebrations, Aspire Academy hosted the final round of the ‘Aspire Football League’ involving teams of young players born in 2004 and 2005 and made up of clubs belonging to the Qatar Football Association (QFA).
In both age groups, teams from Al Sadd SC and Al Gharafa SC won their respective groups and qualified for the finals. In the final of the league featuring players born in 2004, Al Sadd defeated Al Gharafa 3-1. Whilst in the equivalent final featuring players born in 2005, Al Gharafa secured a 3-0 victory.
Commenting on the league, Ed Graper, Managing Coach for Football Feeder Groups at Aspire Academy said: “We are very happy with the turnout and participation in this year’s Aspire Football League, which is an important stepping stone in the development of young Qatari players. All participating clubs fielded their strongest teams and the coaches and players all showed real enthusiasm. We saw some great matches and an excellent standard of football throughout, along with two very exciting finals.”
