Aspire Academy hosted its 15th annual "Global Citizenship Day" today, bringing together staff and student-athletes from over a wide range of nationalities and their diverse cultures. This special event allowed student-athletes to explore cultural and ethnic diversity that is fundamental to the Academy's success.
All the participants were encouraged to wear traditional attire that reflected their chosen nations of origin. Maps and flags, as well as examples of the countries' traditions, tourist attractions, and additional exhibits, were also on display.
Homeroom teachers guided students in preparing their class displays, which featured representations from 18 countries: Palestine, Nigeria, Sudan, USA, Qatar, Spain, Syria, Oman, Bahrain, Canada, Turkey, Yemen, Egypt, UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, and Morocco. Each country was assigned to a specific grade level and class, as they competed to see which group had the best display.
Ahead of the winner's announcement, the student-athletes took part in a highly competitive quiz to test their knowledge and understanding of different cultures and nations from around the world.
The judging committee ruled that Class 7A and their work to represent Palestine were the worthy overall winners on the day, ahead of Class 5B, who represented Spain. The student-athletes were evaluated on the quality, discipline, and participation of their presentations.
Jassem Al Jaber, Aspire Academy's Principal, spoke on the importance of the activities:
"The principle of global citizenship represents a fundamental component of Aspire Academy's educational philosophy. It reinforces the institution's varied approaches to multicultural education and international learning. The Academy's commitment to organising such gatherings stems from its conviction in its role as educators, introducing fresh perspectives on understanding the global community as part of the comprehensive educational journey for the Academy's student-athletes."
This annual celebration showcases the Academy's commitment to fostering international understanding and respect. These practices prepare student-athletes to become true global citizens who can navigate, appreciate, and contribute positively to our increasingly interconnected world.
