QATAR HEADS HOME AFTER IMPRESSIVE COPA AMERICA-DEBUT

Porto Alegre, 23 June 2019. The Qatar Football National Team faced Argentina, number 11 in the FIFA rankings, in their last group stage game at Copa America on Sunday.
An early goal from Lautaro Martínez (4’) and a late second from Sergio Agüero (82’) gave Argentina a 2-0 win over Qatar, that again featured a high number of Aspire Academy graduates: Goalkeeper Saad Al Sheeb, defenders Tarek Salman, Bassam Al-Rawi, and Salem Al Hajri, as well as strikers Akram Afif and Almoez Ali and second half substitute Abdullah Al-Ahrak.
Argentina's win against the Asian champions, their first after a loss to Colombia and a draw with Paraguay, leaves them in second place in Group B on four points behind group winners Colombia, who beat Paraguay 1-0.
Qatar finished their first Copa America participation with a draw against Paraguay (2-2) and a close loss against Colombia (0-1), before facing Argentina on Sunday. The young Qatari team showed again that they were able to compete on the big stage and the players were able to gain a lot of experience that is going to benefit them in the future.
