QATAR IN IMPRESSIVE MEDAL HAUL AT ARAB ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP IN JORDAN

Amman, 23 April 2018. Aspire Academy student athletes led Qatar’s charge for medals at that 18th Arab Junior Athletics Championships held from 19-22 April at the Baccalaureate School in Amman, Jordan. The team brought home a total of seven (7) medals on the back of some impressive performances that ensured among other achievements, world junior qualification standard, a new national record as well as individual personal bests.
Straight on the back of double gold in (Shot Put and Discus) in the recent GCC championship held in Kuwait, student athlete Mohamed Ibrahim Moaaz maintained his fabulous form to repeat the feat in the same events in Amman. It was a similar tale with rising star athlete, Muhand Saifeldin who like Mooaz matched his two gold medal haul from GCC but this time round adding an 800m win in place of the 1500m he won in Kuwait. His first gold came in the 3000m Steeplechase.
Saoud Al Humaidi went one better than his performance at GCC when his time of 14.06 sec secured a silver medal and it was a also a World Junior standard time. On the last day of competition, Rashid Al-Suwaidi added a bronze medal for his exploits in long jump and Team Qatar picked up their last medal, a bronze, thanks to the blistering pace of Jaber Hilal Al Mamari in the 200m sprint.
Team Qatar was part of the 423 athletes competing at the 18th Arab Junior Athletics Championships featuring athletes from 16 countries competing in 44 events.
